Backed by science

Acupressure has been used in Chinese Medicine for over 2000 years and it’s endorsed by modern clinical trials. One 2013 trial for Chronic Lower Back Pain, showed a “70% reduction in worst pain intensity, a 75% reduction in overall pain intensity, and a 42% improvement in disability due to back pain from baseline assessment ” after 4 weeks of applying and using acupressure ear beads in the exact same way as you will use them with AcuCalm at Home.

2 in 1 Wellness

AcuCalm at Home is the only wellness service blending these two powerful tools together. Both acupressure and guided imagery have decades of research demonstrating their effectiveness in supporting a wide range of conditions. A 2011 study combined the two together and saw improvements in the blood glucose of participants with Type 2 Diabetes. NHS guidelines endorse guided imagery audio as support for anxiety and gut disorders.

Origins of AcuCalm

AcuCalm originated in an in person group in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. This in person experience combines ear acupuncture with soothing imagery audio. Replacing the acupuncture with acupressure made an at home version possible. And then moving from group treatment to an individual one enables people to choose audio tracks that are tailored to their individual needs.

Choose your path to calm

Whether you want to try AcuCalm for a few months or build it into your long-term wellbeing routine, there’s an option designed to fit your life. Both include medical-grade ear beads and access to our exclusive guided imagery audio library.

The Power of Imagery Audio

The Mind/Body connection is highly complex, but we understand enough about it to help us feel better and even be healthier. The 2007 “Chambermaid Study” by Dr. Ellen Langer explored how  mindset can influence health.

Researchers divided chambermaids into two groups. One group was told that their daily work constituted exercise beneficial for health, while the others weren’t given this information.

After 4 weeks, the group told their work was exercise showed significant improvements in weight, BMI, blood pressure, and waist-to-hip ratio compared to the control group.

The AcuCalm at Home imagery audio coaches youthrough helpful changes in mindset as well as bringing relief from stress.

AcuCalm FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

AcuCalm Beads can be kept on for up to 5 days at a time. In hot or sweaty conditions they may naturally fall off after a few days. Apply your beads to one ear only using the charts as a guide.

After 5 days, use your finger nail to remove any remaining beads and wait 2 days before applying the beads to your other ear. This is to ensure that your acupressure points remain responsive. Most of the charts use 5 beads and so the 20 beads on your strip are intended to last for most if not all of a calendar month.

Acupressure Beads can be suitable for all ages, but generally we don’t recommend them for children under the age of 8 Children and teens can often find themselves calmed by the beads. As long a you are confident that your child can rub the beads to stimulate the acupressure points and will not peel them off, feel free to apply them.

Whilst for most people AcuCalm Beads are completely comfortable, you might be one of the few who are very sensitive to them. If any of the beads feel sore when you rub them, then stop rubbing.

After 30 minutes or so, if they continue to feel sore, remove that particular bead. Your experience will vary from one bead application to another, so don’t avoid that spot in future as it will very likely feel different next time.

Remember 3 and 3… that’s three times a day for around 3 minutes. This 3 minutes is for all of the bead positions combined, not per bead. No need to be exact, this is a guide. Rubbing more often (so long as you’re not making them sore) is completely fine.

Generally no, unless your piercings take up most of the space in and around your ear. Often piercings can be in specific acupressure / acupuncture points and whilst it is still a matter for debate, it’s possible that piercings desensitise these powerful points. Thankfully the ear has over 200 of these points and so there is always something to work with.

The AcuCalm Story

From the Founder

AcuCalm was created by me, Sarah Kallend, founder and practising therapist. My work has long focused on supporting the nervous system through anxiety, overwhelm, pain, sleep disruption, and recovery. Following my breast cancer treatment, I was introduced to auricular therapy. That experience became a pivotal influence, showing me how small, precise interventions can create real steadiness and relief, both physically and emotionally.

AcuCalm grew from a desire to make that kind of support available beyond the therapy room. By combining medical-grade titanium acupressure beads with therapeutic audio and sound-based practices, AcuCalm offers a simple, repeatable way to create moments of calm at home. It isn’t about fixing or forcing change, but about gently supporting the body and mind to settle, reset, and find their own rhythm again.

“Sometimes the most powerful support comes from the smallest points.”
